If there's one thing sci-fi movies and TV shows have taught us, it's that the future will be blessedly wireless. The present, however, has cords everywhere.
For the next seven days, and while supplies last, ShopTronics has the Nyrius Aries NAVS500 HDMI digital wireless transmitter for $149.96 shipped when you use coupon code NAVSC at checkout. That's a Cheapskate exclusive, cheeps!
The Aries can stream HD video from just about any source -- cable/satellite box, Blu-ray player, game console, computer, etc. -- to any HDMI-equipped HDTV or projector.
That could prove incredibly useful if you're trying to, say, wall-mount a TV, or you have a TV in a different room from one of your components.
According to Nyrius, the system can broadcast HDMI audio and video up to 100 feet, including through walls, floors, and ceilings. It comes with a remote, an IR receiver, and a single HDMI cable. (You'll need two, of course, and if you don't already have one you can borrow from your existing setup, Meritline has a 6-foot HDMI cable for $2.39 shipped.)
It's worth looking at the user reviews for this product, both on the ShopTronics site (where they average 4.7 stars out of 5) and at Amazon, where some 85 customers rated it 3.9 stars out of 5. I think the only real complaint I'd have with the Aries is that it supports only one source, and most people have at least two or three.
If you can live with that, and you want what appears to be a rock-solid solution for beaming HD audio/video from one place to another, this looks like a worthwhile solution. And now that it's $50 off, it's a little more palatable, price-wise.
Bonus deal: Could you use an extra $10,000? Me, too. That's why I just entered the Ebay and Wirefly $10,000 Sweepstakes. All you have to do is check to see if your mobile phone is eligible for an upgrade. And if you're willing to accept a text message with a link to the Ebay mobile app, you'll be entered four times instead of just once. (Note to AT&T users: because the upgrade checker isn't available to you -- Wirefly works only with Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon -- you can enter just by completing that first form.)
